Helping San Gabriel Valley Foster Children Thrive for Over 40 Years
SINCE 1976, FRIENDS OF FOSTER CHILDREN (FOFC) has touched the lives of more than 81,000 children who have been neglected, abused or have emotional problems and who reside in local foster care residential facilities in the San Gabriel Valley.
FOFC has awarded more than 500 scholarships to college and vocational students, supported emancipated teens, funded recreational needs and paid for medical supplies. Through its annual Sugar Plum Tree event at Westfield Santa Anita Mall, FOFC has hosted celebrations and given presents to children who are unable to go home during the holiday season.
FOFC has no paid staff. Less than 6% of the annual budget goes to operating costs, so nearly all funds are applied to the children’s needs.
When children arrive at a facility with minimal personal items, FOFC’s Pixie Project provides them with a hygiene kit, a homemade pillowcase and a new duffle bag, since many children arrive with only a trash bag to hold their belongings. When needed, FOFC also provides provisions such as cookware, craft supplies, bed linens and school supplies to the foster care facilities.
FOFC helps make life more comfortable and meaningful to those who have so little.
