“THE BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION about handymen is that they’re low-skilled,” says Derek Bingley, owner of Local Home Services. “A good handyman is accomplished in many different trades—and can do it all well.”
Derek holds a general contracting license, so he and his team can remodel a kitchen or bath. But you can also hire them for specific trades such as plumbing, finish carpentry, hanging doors, tiling, electrical, hanging art, furniture assembly and more. “And if we do a plumbing repair, you won’t have to hire a handyman to fix the hole in the wall!” says Derek.

They just finished a full bathroom remodel for us, including demo, plumbing, tile work and building a pocket door. We originally called Derek for a long-standing front door issue and he handled that easily. His team is knowledgeable, shows up when they say they will and communicates clearly when plans change. They never make decisions without checking in. Easy to work with, good value and we’ll definitely use them again.

Decent and professional work but exorbitant prices. They use a task-based method rather than a flat hourly or daily rate. They quoted $8,000 for one handyman (changing several door handles and door hinges, installing a ceiling light and switch, shaving the top of a door, partial grouting of two showers, relocating a small kitchen wall cabinet to a different wall, minor painting, sealing an outdoor light, etc.) using mostly my materials (hinges, switches, light, door handles). Only after work started was I informed that they scheduled 4 days at my home – amounting to $2,000 per day my cost – information they deemed unnecessary to provide in advance because they are task-based. Also, of the 4 days of scheduled work, 2 reschedules were needed due to their personnel issues. On the last day, I intended to go through the checklist of work with the handyman, discuss possible future work, and to ask for assistance in properly measuring doors for order / replacement. However, the handyman arrived late, noted that he was in a rush to depart for a medical appointment.

We are a professional handyman service with all the requisite licensing, insurance and workers compensation. My technicians show up in branded vans and uniforms. You can find a guy with some tools and a truck to do the work. They would be much cheaper. They probably wouldn't be insured so you're taking a bit of a gamble but there are plenty of good guys out there if you can find them. But we are always here. When you call Local Home Services someone is going to answer the phone (usually me). If something isn't done to your expectations, we make it right, because the work is warrantied. We have done the same process with my long time customers, of which we have many, and they have given me positive feedback. I will continue to try to improve on how I run my business and utilize technology and think outside the box to provide the best experience to all my customers, new and old. Because I’d been so pleased with a painter from Neighbor2Neighbor, I thought I’d take a chance with another participant, namely Local Home Services. Within a short time of emailing, Derek got back to me. I gave him a list of things I needed done and he went the extra mile with his communication. He sent James to my home who conscientiously and methodically looked over my list and took the day to do it all. He worked hard and he was meticulous. That’s rare these days.
He did some major repairs including cutting out a section of an interior wall that was water damaged. It was beautifully patched and painted to match the rest of the wall. James repaired my brick fireplace and mixed the concrete so the color matched the old concrete as well. He also removed my kitchen door, repaired the weather stripping, aligned and painted the door, as well as enclosing and painting some of the eaves area that could be fire prone. All without going to the hardware store because he had all the materials he needed in his truck. The price was fair with the work completed at the quoted price.
Because of the quality of his work I have already recommended Local Home Services to others.
