Dog Rescue Engages Community
WAGS & WALKS IS A COMMUNITY OF DOG LOVERS working to improve the well-being of abandoned dogs through their family-friendly foster and adoption program.
Since January 2018, the group has saved more than 1,100 dogs (and approximately 4,200 dogs since inception) from high-kill shelters and placed them into caring homes. Every week, they visit city and county shelters in Los Angeles seeking dogs in need of rescuing.
The adoption center consists of two buildings, or 4,000 feet of life-saving space. They have:
- two “meet and greet” rooms
- a doggy play area
- a learning and enrichment center for community events and educational programs
- 28 kennel suites
- a grooming and dog wash station
Wags and Walks is not just a kennel, it is a movement toward educating people about the plight of shelter dogs.
In the future, the group hopes to double the number of dogs saved, increase volunteer opportunities for the community, and create more programs to promote wide-spread adoption and efforts to keep dogs out of shelters.
