Award-Winning Organization Advocates for Watershed Health
FOR OVER 25 YEARS, Ballona Creek Renaissance (BCR) has connected the creek to the community in the Culver City/Del Rey area with the goal of raising awareness to Ballona Creek-related urban watershed issues.
CLEANS: BCR conducts public and private creek cleanup events for all ages.
GREENS: BCR hosts and collaborates on non-native plant removal, learning and native garden projects for ground water improvement and ecosystem health.
EDUCATES: BCR offers dedicated cleanup events for schools as well as classroom visits. The Ballona Creek Renaissance club at Culver City High School was formed in 2016 as an Eagle Scout project; they are at the core of cleanups.
ADVOCATES: BCR engages with local civic leaders and other community-based organizations to impact policy change intended to stop single-use plastic production and distribution.
BEAUTIFIES: With artists as founding members, BCR has designed and executed two creekside murals and a creek gate.
Engagement and learning opportunities can be found through their Instagram and Facebook accounts, E-News, website, at tabling and public speaking events, by acquiring service learning hours, or through native gardening, public art projects and cleanup activities.
